From 16-18th June, the Culture and Conflict will be exhibiting and selling the work of the women they work with at Handmade Oxford at Waterperry Gardens. Handmade Oxford brings together over 150 makers featuring a curated selection of fine arts and craft including jewellery, fashion and textiles, ceramics and glass, sculpture, and more.

This event features original research and lessons learnt from our engagement in Afghanistan through livelihood, migration, and displacement projects.Our current engagement in Afghanistan, captured by the idea of ‘shifting landscapes’, will be explored by means of a roundtable where participants from the Afghan community, humanitarian agencies, local authorities, and academic experts will discuss the politics of resettlement and the operation of the UK’s Afghan schemes.

This event will continue the conversation on the future of WPS and highlight the critical players and untapped resource(s) in the form of women’s agency and diplomacy in addressing the WPS needs in contexts like Afghanistan.

The panellists will address the multiple dimensions of the backlash and also consider how it can and must be resisted and how academics, activists and practitioners can work together to build solidarity and entrench past gains and so ‘push back against the push back’.

This event explores the current challenges of the Women, Peace and Security Agenda, including women’s exclusion from high level negotiations around war and peace.

We will share our research results based on interviews with migrant women and international and national stakeholders and analysis based on four themes: drivers and processes of migration; gendered experiences of urban life in both countries of origin and countries of destination; experiences of cities and gender-based discrimination in public spaces, and the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic.

As Colombia celebrates the 5th anniversary of the peace agreement reached in 2016 between the government and FARC, Colombia still faces numerous challenges. All of these stand at the intersection of gender, justice, and security. This series of events across the day will focus on both the bitter and the hopeful faces of transitional Colombia.
